We were on a road trip and stopped here with our two young children for dinner. The atmosphere was perfect - unfussy but comfortable and sweet, striking a great balance between checkered tablecloth Italian and linen tablecloth Italian. The food was beyond delicious, flavorful, and colorful, and the staff were so friendly and doted on our children, which always feels lovely. We'll make this a regular stop when we drive this route!
John, the baker is old-school Stamford perfection. These are first generation Americans that are keeping the Italian tradition going. Godspeed and God bless.
Such a hidden gem in Stamford. If you’re looking for a solid chicken parm wedge, John the Baker is your place. I never sat down till a few weeks ago and realized they had amazing pizza and appetizers. Pictured is the garlic pepperoni rolls and John’s Pizza. Everything was super fresh and of course the chicken parm sandwich was absolutely perfect. Not quite sure how they do it. The bread is pretty crusty, the chicken is thin and the sauce/cheese isn’t overpowering. Got to try this place if you haven’t yet.
Worst and smelly fried calamari I ever had .With zero customer service skills. The customer service is really rude. I couldn't eat more than three calamari's but when I returned the food, man who was behind the table took my food to the kitchen and returned it and told me that you ate half of the food and he ask me did you had ever eaten calamari before? He started eating my food and he said it is delicious... he was very rude and impolite. There are better restaurants in Stamford, you should try them first .
John the Baker is a Stamford staple. I have been going there for decades and I am never disappointed. The food is amazing and the owners are great. Highly recommend!
I don't leave bad reviews lightly, but I've gotten takeout from here twice in the last two weeks and had less than stellar experiences both times. I wasn't planning to leave a bad review, but after tonight's takeout, I felt it necessary.
The first time I ordered, I got the 2 for $25 Mon/Tues deal which was good food, but the chicken masala was such a small portion I didn't feel it was worth it. I also got two small side salads for an additional $3 each, and they only gave me one. When I went back in to get the other one, the guy behind the register didn't believe me so I had to go back to the car to get my receipt and show him (understandable, but unprofessional).
Tonight, I only ordered a large garden salad ($9.99) with gorgonzola (+$1.25) which they said would take 10-15 minutes. When I got there 20 minutes later, it wasn't ready and one of the ladies threw it together as I stood there. When I got home, I was so disappointed with the small size of it and that there was only one dressing for the whole thing. Fortunately, since I normally go light on dressing anyways, I was able to stretch it for the whole thing, but most people would be needing much more of it. The pictures are of tonights salad and I hate to say it's not at all worth the $12.07 I paid for it. I could justify spending up to $9 since the ingredients are fresh and the dressing is great, but that would be only if I was dying to have their dressing. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with it again.
Julia (waitress )is so kind, personable, remembers your face, and helps you with great recommendations. Julia makes the experience 2x better!
The food is always excellent, nutritious and they use high quality products!
As soon as you walk in, people great you, even the cooks provide you with a friendly smile!
Environment feels homey, it’s bright and smells clean and fresh!
My favorite place to eat lunch and dinner, specially after a long CrossFit workout!!
I just picked up my free cheese pizza. Service was, as usual, great. Pizza was delicious. If you want thin crust pizza this is the place to go. Thank you!
